Heritage For All Fund

Fund purpose

Surrey Cultural Partnership and Community Foundation for Surrey, with funding from National Lottery Heritage Fund, have launched Surrey Heritage For All. This Fund will provide grants to not-for-profit community organisations who are harnessing the power of Surrey’s amazing heritage to change the lives of those most in need in our county.

The Fund aims

Organisations can apply for grants of up to £10,000 to increase opportunities for diverse communities to engage with Surrey’s rich heritage and natural environment. The Fund aims to conserve, share, and celebrate Surrey’s heritage in all its forms, enriching lives and strengthening communities.

The grants will all contribute to helping a wider range of people benefit from and engage with heritage in Surrey, as well as helping preserve our heritage for the future and making organisations that look after heritage more sustainable. The Fund is being set up as part of the response to Surprising Surrey (SS), the county’s cultural strategy.

This funding supports community groups, charities, and other members of the VCSE sector but not the public sector or private companies. See our eligibility criteria below.

We are pleased to be supported by Surrey History Centre (the county records office) and Surrey Museums Group who will help ensure that any heritage assets created through this project have appropriate long-term arrangements for their preservation and storage.

The same organisations, and other members of Surrey Cultural Partnership, have also agreed to make their heritage collections and archives available to community groups wishing to apply for grants to deliver projects through this programme.

We’re looking for

We particularly want to reach small organisations who may not have successfully applied for grants before.

  • Natural and Cultural Heritage – Projects improving nature, historic landscapes, and rural areas while connecting people to their environment and traditions.

  • Stories and Traditions – Oral histories, cultural practices, languages, and commemorations that preserve and celebrate community heritage.

  • Historic Places and Archaeology – Protecting buildings, monuments, and archaeological sites through conservation and community involvement. We'll also fund the people the make it happen.

  • Museums and Collections – Enhancing access to museum, library, and archive collections, including acquiring and interpreting historical objects.

Some words from our CEO, Dr Beccy Bowden

“We hope that the projects funded will create a broader audience for heritage in Surrey, and that the programme will demonstrate to future potential Donors and to those commissioning and delivering well-being and health programmes within Surrey (Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise sectors) how beneficial heritage projects can be in improving people’s quality of life.”

Fund decision-making

The Fund Panel consists of representatives of those donating the funds. The Heritage for All Panel also contains representatives of the Heritage sector and experts on community engagement projects.

Like all the funds that CFSurrey manages, initial applications are reviewed against the fund criteria to make a shortlist. Shortlisted applicants are invited to submit a full application which is decided on by the Panel.
