Surrey Strategic Transformation Programme
A number of our Donor funds have come together to support the sustainability and resilience of our voluntary sector organisations.
Increasingly charities are looking to respond to the urgent need to cut costs by looking for new ways of working, cementing partnership working, or even merging. In addition, many are looking to change their business model to achieve greater financial sustainability in the longer-term and re-imagine the services they provide to beneficiaries.
This Programme will support
Registered charities which have existed for 3 years+ working with children and young people anywhere in Surrey
Funding available (projects up to £15,000) to help improve your financial sustainability by capacity building e.g. improving your impact measurement, investing in your leadership development or support, improving your financial management by investing in new systems or improving your capacity with new systems and processes.
Registered charities and non-registered community groups which are Waverley or Guildford based
Funding available (projects up to £10,000) to achieve a strategic change in terms of your capability and impact. This may be a capital project like a change of use of a building or a technology upgrade which enables the organisation to deliver its services more efficiently and/or open up new avenues.
Registered charities and non-registered community groups which are Waverley or Guildford based
Funding available (projects up to £4,000) for small capital costs, items or equipment which allow you to do something new.
Registered charities anywhere in Surrey providing palliative care, end-of-life support, or supporting those with long-term illnesses
Small capital grants up to £10,000 are available for groups providing palliative care. Our funder is particularly keen to support elderly patients but will consider children too. They would support things that directly improve the quality of life for patients and beneficiaries – this might be something very simple like an improved sound system so patients can listen to relaxing music, or medical aides that will help them be more comfortable in bed, or when seated. Any small capital items will be considered.
This Programme will not consider
Applications to support ‘business as usual’ – these can be made through our usual grant rounds, but this programme is specifically to fund ‘business change’.
Applications for core/running costs.
Applications from individuals, political or sectarian organisations, mainstream schools and colleges, playgroups, community centres, sports clubs. Religious groups can apply but their services must be open to all and the grants cannot be used for the promotion of religion.
Who can apply?
We will prioritise supporting organisations whose primary function and service is supporting people and communities that face the greatest disadvantages and exclusion. Organisations must be focussed on Surrey.
Partnership bids are welcome. For partnership applications we will expect the applicant to demonstrate what additional benefits will be delivered by working together. To be considered as a ‘partnership’, each organisation must be actively involved in the partnership and have a clear role within it. It is expected that there will be some form of partnership agreement or at least evidence of an agreement between partner organisations.
Additional support
Successful applicants to the Strategic Transformation Programme will be offered support (where required) from skilled volunteers from our Funder Plus programme to assist with financial management, governance, or merger discussion.

Apply for funding
Applying for funding is easy. Simply fill out a quick Expression of Interest Form (EOI) to start the application process. This is a rolling programme with no deadlines, applications can be made at any time and will be processed where possible within three months.
Tell us what you want to do, and how much you would like to apply for. The EOI is designed to save you time and provide us with a little more information about your funding needs prior to making a full application.
The grants team will then review your EOI against our fund criteria and advise you if we can invite you to make a full application.
